Meet Tom Foolery, a young, happy-go-lucky Malamute mix with a playful spirit and a heart full of joy. True to his name, Tom brings a little bit of silliness wherever he goes, paired with the affectionate and social nature we love in northern breeds.

 

Tom has been described by staff and volunteers as friendly, easy to handle, and eager to engage. He leashes up easily, re-kennels without issue, and has been cooperative during exams and treatments. He’s highly food motivated (especially for high-value treats like cheese and chicken!), which makes him a great candidate for continued training and engagement.

 

On walks, Tom is generally manageable with a loose leash, though he can show some excitement when he sees other dogs. He often expresses himself with playful, bouncy energy (think play bows and zoomies!). Encouragingly, he has already shown great progress, checking back in with handlers for treats and redirection. His body language remains loose and social, and he may benefit from structured playgroups or continued positive dog-to-dog introductions.

 

Tom enjoys being outside, exploring, and engaging with his people. He has a gentle mouth with treats, recovers quickly from minor startles, and consistently shows a happy, resilient demeanor.

 

Neutered and up to date on core vaccines

No known ongoing medical concerns

Brief history of ingesting chocolate wrappers prior to intake; monitored with no complications

Currently on short-term trazodone as a transitional support in the shelter environment

 

Breed-experienced home recommended (typical Malamute/Husky traits such as prey drive, strength, and potential escape behaviors)

Continued training and enrichment will help him thrive

Dog introductions recommended; has shown social and playful interest

Supervision around small animals/cats until behavior is known
